"Prince Of F**king Darkness:" Trounces Vapid Teeny-Bopper Pop Star:
Can't tell you how glad I am that Ozzy Osbourne stole the Pepsi gig from Britney Spears. He's getting $2M for it too.
"People think I'm crazy, but I'm in demand," indeed!

Crime Pays...Big:
Gotta love Hollywood...
According to this story, Winona Rider is now going to be the celebrity spokeswoman for one of the fashion designers whose products she famously shoplifted!
Isn't there a law?
Remember Donna Rice? Rice—the leggy, bust-enhanced model caught on '84 presidential hopeful Gary Hart's boat Monkey Business—took that incident and spun it into a gig with No Excuses Jeans. Now, she didn't break the law, but she did manage to turn her participation in marital infidelity into a modeling gig. These days, of course, she's a prominent anti-porn crusader.
Confidentially, the 1984 People Magazine cover story on Rice, featuring several samples of her oeuvre, was a key point in the sexual development of many a suburban adolescent male, easily on par with Tawney Kitaen's performances in the Whitesnake videos and Rebecca DeMornay's work in Risky Business.
You know...Only I can make the word oeuvre sound dirty.

Recent Trade Media Interaction:
Chris Kent of Ragan's Media Relations Report recently interviewed me about PR and blogging. The article should come out on Jan. 6, 2003. Chris also interviewed Kevin Dugan.
On Jan. 9, ExpertPR will publish another one of my articles. This time I have a co-author -- Mike Masnick of Techdirt.
Stay tuned...

Pointcast Was Born To Be Freeware:
Remember when Pointcast caused a Bubble-era sensation with its "push" method for delivering news? It eventually died due to 100% user turnover and the fact that it hogged system resources, but the idea was a good one.
If Pointcast hadn't died years ago, a more recent class of free newsreaders (and the open-source framework for their use) would have surely killed it. I've finally installed an RSS (RDF Site Summary) reader, which goes out into news sites on the Web — especially blogs — and retrieves their headlines. "RDF," by the way, stands for "Resource Description Framework."
I admit I'm a little late to this party, but I'm very impressed. I'm using Feedreader, which has its share of bugs but seems to work pretty well. It doesn't hog resources and unobtrusive popups tell me when updates occur.

The G2B Group Newsletter:
I just finished writing and uploading the December edition of G2B Group's newsletter, dubbed Tapeout. Subscribers will get it tomorrow morning, but Blogservations fans can get it here.
Why did we decide to call our newsletter Tapeout? From the site:In the semiconductor industry, the term "tapeout" refers to the completion of a chip's design — the last stage before production starts. It's a throwback to the days when a chip's finalized design was transferred to the manufacturing facility, or "fab," on magnetic tape.Today, the term describes a key milestone in the development of a chip. These complex devices can be completed only when years upon years of technical expertise are applied to solving important engineering problems in support of delivering a winning product. G2B Group's similarly named newsletter offers ideas that are backed the years of public relations experience that we offer today's innovation-driven companies. For those of you who didn't get the Nov. 2002 issue, download it here.

O'Dwyer's Now A Paid Site... PR Bloggers Unite!
So, it had to happen. After four years, the O'Dwyer's news site—dedicated to the PR industry's ins, outs, throughs, comings, and goings—is now a subscription-based service.
I certainly don't fault them. We all have to make money.
However, I see this as a net loss for the PR community. If ever blogging were to become an important tool for sharing PR industry knowledge and opinion, that time is now. That's why it's great we have Tom Murphy, Deborah Branscum, and Kevin Dugan. Honestly, I've gotten more out of reading their work than I've ever gotten out of my brief flirtations with the industry's professional trade organizations to date.

New ExpertPR Article Published:
ExpertPR says, "Last year, some (not us) predicted that instant messaging would be the next great media relations craze. Phil Gomes explains why it is not — and probably never will be."
More in my article from last week. It was published in what I assume to be a very well-read Thanksgiving Day issue! *8-)
