"And That's The Way It Is... Aight?"
I managed to entertain myself quite a bit this morning when I read this news that Walter Cronkite might be in talks with MTV to help them out with campaign coverage.
The iconic broadcaster — known as "the most trusted man in America" at one point — on MTV? This is surreal. I was about five or six years old when the CBS Evening News anchor slot moved from Cronkite to Dan Rather, so I still remember Cronkite's famous catch-phrase "And that's the way it is."
(Speaking of Rather... Am I the only one who thinks that he should thank his lucky stars that we live in so-called "more enlightened" times? I keep wondering what would have happened to Edward R. Murrow if he gave Adolph Hitler the same softball interview that Rather gave Saddam Hussein. Granted, Rather probably had an off-screen gun pointed at him during the whole segment, but it's still an interesting notion to consider.)
Anyway... It would certainly be something else if Cronkite took this MTV gig.
