Lay Plays God Card
Enron's Lay Plays God Card
Oh, wow...
Mr. Lay later said, "I firmly believe I'm innocent of the charges against me."
In televised remarks, he said, "We believe that God in fact is in control and indeed he does work all things for good for those who love the Lord."
Kenny-boy... Hate to break it to ya, but your new "God" is a cellmate who is probably doing time for something a lot more heinous than even your unbelievable fraud.

Welcome To Edelman, A&R
Welcome To Edelman, A&R
I must say, having "grown up" in technology PR, I'm proud to have A&R Partners aboard at Edelman.
The next edition of earSHOT, which goes up tomorrow, has my discussion with Bob Angus, co-founder of A&R. You'll see that we're basically of the same mind when it comes to the philosophical concepts of what makes Silicon Valley a great place. I hope to interview him some more... I'm trying to fanagle a trip to our annual GM meeting to deliver more content for the podcast.
Looking forward to all of this. Exciting times.

Memories Of South Park
Memories Of South Park
I'm strangely reminded of that South Park episode when the kids go to Aspen and little Stan Marsh gets accosted over and over again by "Tad", the hotshot teenage skiier. Tad keeps on calling him "Stan Darsh" (WAV) thinking it's the funniest thing in the world.
Tad keeps trying to challenge Stan "Darsh" to downhill races, and even sings an off-key song to him in the ski lodge. "Stan DAAAAAAAAARRRRRSSSSSSSHHHHH!!!"
It's one of the more annoying episodes, since the joke was pretty bad the first time. Trey Parker and Matt Stone manage to stretch it into a half-hour.
Yeah... Was just reminded of that episode...

Indecency Legislation
Indecency Legislation
Oh, jeez... Here we go again...
On his second attempt this month, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) is attempting to bring broadcast "indecency" legislation to the Senate floor.
The bill is sponsored by Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas), a staunch social conservative. The bill, if enacted, will increase the fines on broadcasters for airing indecent material from $32,500 to $325,000.
Yes... Having solved every other problem in this country, we're heading back in this direction.
It might be a good start if... You know... Parents would work at... Ummm... Being parents.
"Never fear," Washington says. "We'll legislate values for you."
What happened? The Republican party used to be the party of personal responsibility. You know... Limited government and that sort of thing.
Two words, Senator Frist: "Tipper Gore."
For Pete's sake, guys... You already pushed Stern off of the airwaves.
The folks at Sirius and XM are probably dancing a jig. The more the government exercises legislative and regulatory power on the public airwaves, the more people will be drawn to pay-to-use services.
One of the commenters on the LP blog, "Chuck", said it best:
Smoke and mirrors. The biggest indecencies are launched from the 10 mile square District of Columbia.
Fark had this perspective:
Senate votes to make network TV boob slippage cost a zillion dollars. Graphic depiction of a man getting his head severed by a freight train at 9pm on CSI season finale last night still OK
May we someday recover from Janet Jackson's bosom and the ludicrous legislation it may inspire.

Cab Driver Makes Pretty Good Music Industry Analyst
Cab DriverJob Applicant Makes Pretty Good Music Industry Analyst
This video (WMV) is the funniest thing you'll see all week. Guaran-goddamn-teed.
Apparently, BBC producers rushed a cabbie into an interview thinking that he was an expert in online music. Turns out he was just hanging out in the lobby.
Here's the thing, though... After he got over his initial confusion, he actually did a pretty good job. It's not like he's going to be taking column inches from Rob Enderle, Roger Kay, Tim Bajarin, or Richard Doherty any time soon, but he stumbled through alright, all things considered. I mean... Hell... He probably had someone from Apple UK in his cab at least once.
I wonder if the anchor had any idea that this guy was more "Fare Play" than "FairPlay."
Hat-tip: Groovy Mother by way of Leah Jones.
UPDATE: Tom Biro updates me. The "cabbie" isn't so much a cabbie but, according to Guy Kewney (the intended commentator) "he was applying for a high level IT job with the BBC."

Damn...
Rubel informed me via email (and later posted) that the LAPD is blogging.
My response:
Just in case you see the pictures... It was *before* Rick hired me at Edelman. I thought I was going to be a poor, jobless student. I needed the work.
