Nightmarish Folgers Commercial

Nightmarish Folgers Commercial

For those of you who think that the advertising industry has run out of ideas, you'll wish that you were right after seeing this video.

I'm going to boil my retinas now.

Back In El Lay

Back In El Lay

Back in LA... I've got a ton of great earSHOT-worthy content to sift through from the Edelman Summer School in DC. Stuff on crisis comm, avian flu, desired skill sets, etc.

Kami Huyse was the only one who responded to this call, so her question will be on the next show.

Of course, if anyone has any questions for Edelman's management, I can track someone down phone-wise. Same rules apply. Send to earshot~at~edelman~dot~com.

Give me a week to sift through the content.

earSHOT: Give Me Questions To Ask Edelman Management And Superstars

earSHOT: Give Me Questions To Ask Edelman Management And Superstars

Tomorrow through the weekend, we're having "Edelman Summer School." It's an annual event that follows the General Manager's meeting. At Summer School, the agency's management and brightest stars share what they know and learn from others.

I'll be there with the earSHOT podcast studio in hand. Here's what I want to know:

What questions do you want me to ask?

Reasonable questions — from real human beings who don't hide behind cowardly pseudonyms — will be given credit on the show.

I've got one foot out the door to catch a plane, but I'll be on my Blackberry. Send suggestions to earshot~at~edelman~dot~com.

The Edelman earSHOT "Podcast Studio"

The Edelman earSHOT "Podcast Studio"

I came across this post in "...The World's Leading..." by way of Andrew B. Smith, which I found through Constantin Basturea's excellent Digg-for-PR thingy.

In covering the "Weber Shandwick Podcast Studio," PR Week describes:

The soundproofed studio is expected to open next month. The 12 sq ft room will contain a table and chairs for clients, plus two professional-quality microphones and a PC that will store the required digital capture software.
(I'm assuming that "12 sq ft" is a misprint. After all, at over 6'1" and about 1.5' shoulder-to-shoulder, "12 sq ft" will be barely large enough for my coffin when that time comes.)

For the sake of their readers, PR Week should understand that it is the distribution mechanism that defines a "podcast," not the production mechanism. From that perspective, a $150,000 state-of-the-art facility is no more a "podcast studio" than the condenser mic on my Rio Carbon MP3 player.

My fear is that the average PR Week reader will define "podcast" as "an audio file placed for download over the Internet, combined with the means to 'game the system' in the iTunes directory."

So, in the interest of "transparency" and "disclosure" and all that, here's a look at the "Edelman earSHOT podcast studio."

Every once in a while, superproducer Anthony Stagno will let me use the production facility in our Chicago office when I'm in town. And, of course, all-of-the-above is available for client-service use.

To put it country-simple, though, the earSHOT "podcast studio" is wherever I am. I'm also teaching others how to use Audacity, since I strongly believe that such skills are inevitably going to be required from account folks moving forward.

Incidentally, Weber Shandwick's James Warren is doing a fair job responding with refreshing humor and aplomb.

Mass Patricide To Occur in 2010

Mass Patricide To Occur in 2010

A bit of lawmaking insanity, courtesy of our Legislative branch and brought to you by Official the Libertarian Party blog:

If Congress does not take further action on the death tax, owners of large estates will get a temporary reprieve from the death tax for one year in 2010, then in 2011, will be subject to a 55 percent tax rate.
Does this strike anyone else as incredibly, incredibly wrong on multiple levels?

As Gallagher once said, "If 'pro' is the opposite of 'con,' then 'congress' is the opposite of 'progress.'"

TalkShop: The Mark(eting) Of The Beast

I've just put up a piece on Edelman's TalkShop blog about the marketing frenzy around today's demonic date.
